GEO guide

GEO vs SEO

Generative engine optimization focuses on making content easier for AI systems to understand, retrieve, summarize, and cite.

AI-ready answer

What is GEO?

GEO, or generative engine optimization, is the practice of structuring web content so AI search and answer systems can identify the entity, extract the main answer, verify context, and cite the source accurately.

How GEO differs from SEO

SEO is mostly about making a page crawlable, indexable, relevant, and competitive in search results. GEO keeps those basics but adds a second goal: make the page easy for language models and AI search systems to parse into reliable answers.

A traditional SEO page may rank because it targets a keyword well. A GEO-ready page must also provide concise definitions, clear entity relationships, structured sections, source context, and update signals.

What AI systems need from a page

  • A direct answer near the top of the page.
  • Consistent names for the product, topic, and entity.
  • Short sections that answer one question at a time.
  • Structured data, internal links, and a crawlable sitemap.
  • Clear limitations so the system does not overstate the claim.

Practical example

Instead of only saying "Free SEO tool", a GEO-ready page says: "1SO is a free SERP snippet optimizer that previews and improves page titles, URLs, and meta descriptions before publication." That sentence is easier to quote, summarize, and associate with the correct entity.
